Anger. You'd understand if you were in Marius's shoes. His whole life is based as being a solider is his lifestyle. From being from a famous, well-known family living the high life, Marius was his father's boy. He learned philosophy, how to be a senator and how to fight and become a solider from his father.
His mother and sister were dear to him but when his father was killed, he felt the crushing anger come crashing down on him. He didn't care who or which Brition he hurt, he'd get his revenge and save Rome no matter the cost.
